KATHMANDU, June 30 - The government has approved the post of six judges to work at the proposed six commercial benches, according to a cabinet source. The approved number of judges is half the number sought by the Supreme Court.
Besides, the government, in a decision last Wednesday, also approved the post of 12 under secretaries to work at the benches to be set up at Patan, Hetauda, Biratnagar, Pokhara, Birgunj and Nepalgunj appellate
courts.
The approved number of officials is also far less than the Supreme Court’s request. The court had told the government that altogether 66 staff were required for the
benches.
“We will have difficulty in setting up the benches with the approved human resources,” said Supreme Court Spokesperson Til Prasad Shrestha.
The commercial benches have been felt necessary to take up cases related to laws like Company Act, Secured Transaction Act and Insolvency Act.
In a decision last June, the Supreme Court had approved a proposal to set up commercial benches but its decision is yet to be implemented as the government has not taken any decision to set up benches till date.
