4 killed, dozens displaced

KATHMANDU, June 30 - At least four people were killed, dozens others were displaced and property worth millions of rupees was damaged due to the floods and landslide triggered by incessant rains at several places in the country within past two days. Purna Bahadur BK and Rudri Pun of Bame VDC in Salyan district were killed on the spot and another sustained injuries when a landslide buried a local watermill on Saturday, police said.

The injured, Saune Pun, is receiving treatment at the local medical hall.

Similarly, a house at Shreenagar Bazaar of Khalanga and Kalika Secondary School at Kajeri were damaged by landslide. However, there was no human casualty.

In Jajarkot, the flooded Risang Khola swept away Jayakali Pun of Khalanga-4 on Saturday evening as she was returning home from Khalanga bazaar. Her body was recovered Sunday morning, police said.

Likewise, Jhabinda Kunwar of Nayagaun VDC of Gulmi district drowned while she attempted to cross the swelling Panaha stream on Sunday.

In Nawalparasi, eight families were displaced because of a landslide at Deurali-7. Local Bam Bahadur Saru said those displaced had been taking refuge in their neighbors’ houses now.

More than 100 bighas of land at Paklihawa VDC-9 in the district has been swept away by the flooded Narayani River. VDC secretary, Gaurishankar Sharma, informed sugarcane and paddy worth thousands of rupees were damaged by the floods there. The irked locals criticized the concerned authorities for not taking any initiatives to control the floods in the area.

Likewise, transportation at Satabaja-Gokuleshwor stretch along Baitadi-Darchula road section was obstructed as a landslide blocked the road.
